It is important to do the following after work experience:

• Update your resume.
  • Need help with your resume? Visit our sheppartoncareerinfo blog for assistance.
• If you have gone to a place highlighted in this blog, why not leave a comment at the relevant post. (For example if you went to the GV Hospital, find the GV Hospital post, leave a comment).
• Send a thankyouletter.
  • Why? Apart from being polite, it’s also about creating opportunities for the future ‘you’,
    • you may need your work experience employer as a referee, or
    • you could score yourself a job!
    • you could score yourself a school based apprenticeship!
• Consider this question…
  • Is this the career I want to follow?
    • Yes? See your School’s Careers Advisor and discuss how you are going to ‘get’ to that career. Create a plan of action.
    • No? See your School’s Career Advisor and discuss what other work experiences you should try.

You should know what to expect during your Work Experience week because you have checked out the relevant Need To Know posts, however, the following should also happen…

• Safety Induction.  It is the responsibility of your work place to give you a safety induction so that you know where the toilets are, fire exits and any other emergency procedures.
• Journal.  Your school will give you a journal of some description to complete.
  • Why?  These are great for transferring information to your resume, and fantastic to look back on when you are applying for a job in the future.
• Visit or Call.  You should receive a visit or a call from the school during your week to check to see how you are going.
• Remember… if you are (for whatever reason) not happy at work experience CALL your SCHOOL.
