IDEAS – TATURA MILK

At Tatura Milk there are a couple of guys who sit in a computer room in the centre of the complex and control the whole process from the moment the tanker locks in to download the milk into the system until the time the milk exits (as cheese or some other product) … that’s amazing, challenging, and quite a responsibility!
Tatura Milk http://www.tatmilk.com.au/ is a great place for work experience, as they own themselves (so to speak) there are various jobs you can do for work experience including accounting, engineering, info tech, laboratory work and much more (check out their website for all their jobs).

Work Experience at Campbell Soups – Did you know that Campbell Soups has a broad range of careers which you can experience? Careers include:

They will try their best to give you an exceptional work experience – you can shadow an expert, document your experience and participate in supervised tasks. Most of their apprentices are found through work experience.

The Maintenance Department (Engineering) would be happy to take on a work experience student.
Tasks: Limited hands on trades work (due to safety obligations), however you will be assisting tradespeople ie put parts into store, obtaining required parts from store, cleaning parts, tools, exposure to: breakdowns, workshop tasks, PM system, scheduling, planning etc.
Time Frame: Anytime other than our annual shut down period (24 Sept – 5 October, 5 – 9 November)
Human Resources department is also keen to put on a work experience student:
Tasks: Filing of Human Resources Personnel records including: sourcing files; reviewing each document and determining where it fit in the selected category; hole punching and placing files into new folder; returning files to filing cabinet in alphabetical order

IDEAS – Melbourne Football Club

The Melbourne Football Club offer 30 students from around Australia the opportunity to spend a week with them.
Students gain formal exposure to areas of the club including media, events, football operations, technology, sport science and all the excitement of an AFL match day.
Students attend a four week day, followed by the match at the end of the week.
Two weeks are available:
- Week 1 – commencing Monday 23 May 2011
- Week 2 – commencing Monday 4 July 2011

IDEAS – Marine Discovery Centre

The Marine Careers Discovery Centre at Queenscliff run two marine career focused days during the school holidays in 2011 the dates are:

Presenters include biologists, managers, chemists, tourism operators, education officers, PhD Students and fisheries officers. Students will tour behind the scenes and participate in a fish dissection.

Royal Women’s Hospital – 2011

Students have the opportunity to apply for work experience at the Royal Women’s Hospital in 2011. The dates allocated for this program include: 4th – 8th April, 27th June – 1st July or 19th – 23rd Sept 2011. Placement is available in a variety of areas including; midwifery, nursing, social work and other health professions. Royal Children’s Hospital – 2011

Applications for 2011 work experience placements at the Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne are now open and close on 31st Dec. Applications will not be accepted outside of this timeframe. Students need to complete an online application form and submit a resume and covering letter. Dates allocated for the 2011program include 22-26 March or 21-25 June. Placement is available in the following departments; nursing, medicine, pharmaceutical, science/laboratory, radiology, health/nutrition, childcare, psychology, adolescent health or admin/clerical. Victoria Police offer placements to year 10, 11 or 12 students wishing to undertake work experience at participating police stations and units. To be eligible, students must be aged at least 15 years at the time of placement. Applications are accepted ONLY by career teachers on behalf of students. Students can NOT apply directly to Victoria Police or individual stations. The program opens in September each year, with placements finalised by December for the following year.

The Age work experience program lasts four days (Monday to Thursday) and runs from March to October each year and is open to all students who are 16 years or older. Applications for this program are taken in writing stating why you should be considered for the program and give some possible dates. Register to apply for Work Experience with a local Surveyor at www.alifewithoutlimits.com.au. Steps to follow:
- Click on the above link, go to the ‘work exerience’ tab and select ‘secondary students’ in the dropdown menu.
- You will be emailed the contact information of Surveyors in a few local firms who are willing to host work experience students.
- You contact the Surveyor directly to apply for a placement (make sure you speak with your Careers Advisor to keep them in the loop).

The Shepparton News only takes ONE student per month. A request letter is required stating WHY you want to do work experience and what area you are interested in (editorial/journalism, photography or graphic design) plus a resume and a list of possible dates This should be written in editorial style (not just dot points) taking care with grammar and punctuation. When approved send a work experience arrangement form.
