At our Job Blog – Short Resume (opens in new link), you will find a ‘short resume’ which you can download and alter for yourself. Make sure you get somebody to proof read it before giving it to an employer.
Letter of Application
Aug 15th
Why write a letter of application for work experience? Well, you can practice for things like netball, football, or playing the drums, but you get little or no practice applying for jobs whilst at school. By writing a letter of application for work experience you are learning important REAL skills.
We suggest that before putting together your own letter, you look at the link skills and abilities (opens in new window) this will help you make a list of skills and abilities which are particular to YOU.
We also recommend that you print and proof read your letter at least TWICE – before handing to an employer. Find proof readers with good english skills.

Dear Mr Brown
Re: Work Experience
During 2009 I will be studying Year 10 at Shepparton School, Shepparton. As part of my Year 10 studies, I have the opportunity to participate in work experience. This work experience is scheduled for the week 15th to 19th May 2010. I am very keen to complete my work experience with your school, as teaching may be an area in which I would like to direct my career.
I am very interested in both classroom and Physical Education teaching. I am especially keen to observe the different teaching methods used in a variety of classes ranging from Prep to Grade 6 . To date my experiences in the working world have been in retailing, but I am very keen to broaden my views, especially into an area in which I may direct my future studies and career.
If successful in my application, the goals I would be setting myself would be:
- To learn about the various educational needs of each year level at your school.
- To observe the different teaching methods used in your school.
- To observe how teachers interact with their students.
- To gain a basic understanding of how a primary school operates.
- To observe the variety of jobs available in your school.
- To assist in any way possible.
- To use this knowledge to assist in my subject selections for VCE.
If you are able to assist me, please contact me at home after 4.30pm. I would be delighted to attend an interview at a mutually convenient time.
Attached is a resume to support my application. Thank you very much for considering my request.
Yours faithfully
Victoria Tryer (Miss)
